Network Member Spotlight
Q & A with This Month’s MFA Network Member Spotlight:
Michael Bui

Michael Bui, 22, Angleton, Texas, first joined the MFA Network in the Fall of 2000 (then the BOA Network). “At first, I joined the network just to look up BOA results and to learn what BOA was all about but I ended up making life-long friends.” We asked Michael to tell us more about himself and his experience with MFA and BOA.

What do you enjoy about being a Music for All Network member?
I enjoy the interaction with other music lovers. Being a member has helped me expand my knowledge of the musical and marching band world, as well as get to know other students from programs (and band fans) across the country.

What's the last MFA/BOA event you attended?
The last event I attended was the BOA Regional in Houston a couple of weeks ago. I spent 16 hours at the stadium from sun up to sun down watching all of the Prelims and Finalists bands. I was a little wet from the rain and sunburned, but seeing the kids on the field pouring their heart out and making music made it all worth it.

What MFA/BOA events do you plan to attend in the next few months?
I will be attending the BOA Super Regional in San Antonio on November 2-3, as well as BOA Grand Nationals in Indianapolis on November 15-17. I've got to say goodbye to the RCA Dome!

Tell us about yourself.
I am a 2003 graduate of Angleton High School and was part of the journalism department as the Newspaper Editor and also the band program under the direction of Andy Gekoskie, dear friend of BOA/MFA. I am currently a music education major with a minor in Journalism at Brazosport College in Texas. Where I see myself five years from now? Wow, that's such a long ways away. But, my goal is to either become a band director or be involved with a fine arts organization. Music has always been an integral part of my life and I want to share my passion for music to others around me.
